Andrew Lloyd Webber

Jesus Christ Superstar

rock opera in 2 acts

Lyrics by Tim Rice

For the first time on the Ukrainian stage — one of the most famous rock operas in the world with a rather long history, which has become a masterpiece and legend of world music — "Jesus Christ Superstar". The rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, which premiered on Broadway in 1971, was a huge success and was staged in 17 countries around the world.

The basis of the plot of the rock opera was the Gospel of John — the events that took place at the beginning of the Christian Era. The storyline covers the period from the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem to the moment of his death on Calvary, the last seven days of the life of Jesus of Nazareth, from the moment of his appearance on Palm Sunday to the execution by order of Pontius Pilate.

Odesa Academic Theatre of Musical Comedy named after M. Vodyanoy worked with trepidation and excitement with this outstanding material and tells this ancient story with completely modern theatrical means: means of music, light, words, acting, so that the person who watches the play leaves the theater and looks at himself to some extent from the inside, made good conclusions and found a conditional "way to the temple" inside her soul.
