Chasing Two Hares

musical comedy in 2 acts by M. Staritsky

Libretto by D. Shevtsov

A classic Ukrainian comedy by M. Staritsky, based on the play by I. Nechuy-Levytsky, a comedy of provisions on the eternal theme of a "successful marriage". The groom, as usual, is "enviable" in appearance, but in fact he is a crook and a liar. The brides..., well, they are not without flaws. The story, though written more than a hundred years ago, is as relevant as ever. The seekers of easy money at the expense of a promising marriage have not and will not disappear. Ignorance and stupidity continue to hide behind the mask of education. Gossips continue to gossip, replacing real values with fictional ones. How familiar all this is to modern society!

The Odesa Academic Theatre of Musical Comedy already addressed this material in 1955. Back then, the role of Prony was played by Yevheniia Dembska, who created a vivid satirical image! Her partner was Emmanuel Liberro. I. Grinspoon's production was a huge success with the public.

And now, 65 years later, Chasing Two Hares is back in the repertoire of our theatre. The beautiful music by V. Ilyin and V. Lukashev with easily recognisable musical quotes, linguistic colour, humour, and brilliant artistic performances are everything you need for theatrical pleasure!
